Bold claim: Western Michigan hockey fans can breathe easier knowing their team still sits securely in national rankings—despite an off week.
KALAMAZOO, Mich. — Even with an idle slate, the Broncos held firm, preserving their position in the national polls. Neither ranking shifted: they remained No. 7 in the USCHO poll and No. 8 in the USA Hockey poll. Leading the way in both lists were Michigan, Wisconsin, Michigan State, North Dakota, and Minnesota Duluth, who occupied the top five spots this week.
Other NCHC teams continued to populate the rankings, including North Dakota, Minnesota Duluth, and Denver. Colorado College, Miami, Arizona State, and St. Cloud State also received votes, while Omaha stood as the lone conference team not garnering votes this week.
Looking ahead, Western Michigan returns to action on December 28 at the Kwik Trip Holiday Face-Off. They’ll open the tournament against Boston College at 8:30 PM ET, with the event unfolding at Milwaukee’s Fiserv Forum.
And here’s where it gets interesting: even with a quiet week, the margin for staying power in the rankings can hinge on a single performance. Is the Broncos’ steadiness a sign of deeper consistency, or a temporary plateau?
